Turbulent Tenderness: Exhibition of Taiwanese Romans-Fleuves

How Much Do You Know About Romans-Fleuves?

The Unique Disposition of Roman-Fleuve

Yeh Shih-tao: The destiny of humankind is the focal point in one's works. Given an absence of an individual worldview, distinctive thinking and indifference to idealism, a roman-fleuve would be a mere persisting string of stories, or at best, some touching best-sellers.

Chung Chao-cheng: "Epoch" is an indispensable element. The history of Taiwan is a motif in roman-fleuve, reflecting the interactivity between the people and the government during the period beginning from Qing imperial rule, Japanese colonial rule, to the ROC government's relocation to Taiwan. The eternal themes address the infinite struggle of Taiwan people against the rulers and the environment.

Chen Fang-ming: By developing a strong awareness of history across the eras associated with the rise and fall of clans and countries, a writer is sympathetic but also critical of the historical background and social realities as depicted in his/her works.

Yang Zhao: The historical perspective of roman-fleuve is constructed upon the history of Taiwan relative to Chinese history, or the Taiwan history aside from the Chinese narrative. This enables Taiwan to rise above mainstream anecdotal non-representation to be seen and recognized.
