When History Meets Literature: An Exhibition of NMTL's Collection

Afterword

In retrospect, the island of Taiwan has been through much turbulence for over 400 years, from the Dutch and Spanish colonization, the rule of the Qing dynasty, and the Japanese colonial era to the post-war period, like having been ravaged by wolves and boars one after another. Its inhabitants also mobilized counteractions, as seen in the repeated civil uprising events. All along, literature proliferated like unceasing waves breaking ashore, with the tiding arriving with every historical incident, at times softly rippling or adamantly crashing in, as if speaking for the Island's people in their quest for freedom and democracy.

Let us now honor the accomplishments of our forefathers and look forward to literature enduring in its role as the voice of this Island.🥂
