The Isles of Dream Beasts

 

About the Game

This project bases on the concept of a fantasy island. It draws inspiration from five authors- Yeh Shih-tao, Jhang Shen-Chieh, Long Ying-zong, Lin Hai-yin, and Yao Yi-wei. Meanwhile, it produces the 3D scanning from the collections of NMTL. Those collections are designed as the key props to unlocked different chapters. The collections include`Rattan chair' from Yeh Shih-tao, The'Celebrity Inscriptions' from Jhang Shen-Chieh's hiking trip, Long Ying-zong's wheelchair, the treasured elephant collections of Lin Hai-yin, and Yao Yiwei's suitcase.

 

Game Introduction

The 'Galactic dream' has begun to lose control.
The dream trainers who live on The Isles of Dream Beasts have lived in peace with humans for thousands of years. The issue comes that the Baku on the island have become violent because of the excessive gluttony of human nightmares, which makes the Galactic dream begin to collapse.
The player will serve as a young dream trainer, tracing back to the past to seek all kinds of intelligence to restore the world. Along the way, the player will meet many well-known literati in Taiwan's literary field. As long as the player helps them solve difficulties, the player can get intelligence. Now enter The Isles of Dream Beasts, collect the energy to calm the dream beasts, and restore the world of Baku back to peace!

Introduction to literati


Lin Hai-yin (1918-2001)

Pseudonym of Lin Han-yin, was from the Hakkas in Miaoli County, Taiwan. When she was young, her family moved to Beijing. Beijing became a significant background source for Lin Hai-yin's novel Memories of Peking: South Side Stories. In 1948, Lin and her family returned to Taiwan. She was an editor, writer, and publisher of newspapers and magazines, and supported many writers. She is an important figure in facilitating modern Taiwan literature.

 

 

Yeh Shih-tao (1925-2008)

His novels had a strong local consciousness, focusing on local spirit and historical experience. The theme of his work lights on the difficulty of human existence, pursuing atonement or liberation. His work Outline of Taiwan Literary History is Taiwan's first contemporary literary history. Ye could be considered as the witness and founder of Taiwan literary research.

 

 

Yao Yi-wei (1922-1997)

Pseudonym of Yao Gong-wei. He graduated from the Banking Department of Xiamen University. After moving to Taiwan, he worked for the Bank of Taiwan and participated in the establishment of the National College of Arts. He served as the director of the theater department, a professor in the Master course for theatre and research institute. Also, he participated in the editing of Bi Hui, Modern Literature, Wen Ji, and other publications. He published some literary reviews. Yao focused on drama throughout his life and contributed to Taiwan's theatre drama theories and drama movements.

 

 

Chang Shen-Chieh (1904-1965)

He organized the “Taiwan Theatre Research Association”, “Taiwan Literature and Art League”, and published Taiwan Literature and Art. His publication includes critiques, essays, novels, scripts, etc. Using naturalistic techniques to dramatically expose the deceit and foolishness of Japanese imperialism is characteristic of his works. Meanwhile, his works explore the reasons for the tragedy that Taiwan society became a colony of Japan.

 

 

Long Ying-zong (1911-1999)

Pseudonym of Liu Rong-zong, was one of the most important writers in Taiwan during the Japanese rule and the early postwar period. In 1937, his debut work “The Town with Papaya Trees” was selected as the ‘Recommended Works’ of the famous Japanese comprehensive magazine Reconstruction and became famous. It reflects the cultural conflicts, frustrations, and grief of the Taiwanese during the Japanese rule. In the 1980s, the Mandarine work “Du Fu in Changan” attracted the attention and recognition of the literary world once again.
