About the Game

"Kavalan Adventure" is the fifth digital game in the Taiwan Literature Museum's "Digital Game Development with 3D Scanning and Modeling Project." This game is adapted from Li Tong's work "少年噶瑪蘭" ("Youth of Kavalan") transforming the original novel into an adventure-filled gaming experience. In the game, players will collaborate with the Kavalan tribe, embarking on an exciting and thrilling adventure.

"Kavalan Adventure" is not just an entertainment game; it also showcases Taiwan's rich literary heritage. Through this game, we hope to promote the value of Taiwanese literature, allowing more people to understand and appreciate these outstanding works.

Game Introduction

In "Kavalan Adventure," players take on the role of a visitor to the tribe, immersing themselves in this magical adventure world through radar interaction and motion sensing technology. Players will time-travel back to the 1800s in the Kavalan community, searching for diverse flora and fauna, bravely fending off wild boars to protect the Kavalan people. Additionally, during a major flood disaster, players must skillfully navigate through drifting logs to help the tribe overcome challenges.

The game is not only filled with thrilling scenarios but also incorporates motion sensing interaction, allowing players to participate in celebrations and share joyous songs and dances with the Kavalan people. This game ingeniously combines adventure elements with literary charm, seamlessly integrating Taiwan's rich literary heritage into the gaming experience, offering players an immersive literary journey.

 

 

Game writer

Huang Nian-Jue
Huang is from the rural areas of Tainan and holds the position of the youngest in the family.
He graduated from a regular high school and is currently pursuing his undergraduate studies in the Multimedia and Entertainment Science department at Southern Taiwan University. Huang has been intrigued by the workings behind games since childhood, fostering a keen interest in game design and leading him to enroll in a relevant academic program.

Chen Li-Xuan
Residing in Tainan, Chen is a student in the Multimedia and Entertainment Science department at Southern Taiwan University.
From a young age, he has been fascinated by art and graphic design. Considering the coolness of the game production process, Chen chose to pursue a major related to game development.

Lin Zhao-Cong
Lin Zhao-Cong is from Malaysia, graduated from Confucius Independent High School, and is currently studying in the Multimedia and Computer Entertainment Science department at Southern Taiwan University.
Due to his passion for playing games since childhood and a strong interest in design, Lin has chosen to pursue studies abroad in a design-related field. His desire to experience a different academic environment led him to select a design-oriented program for his overseas studies.

 

 

 

About the Author


Li Tong (1953-2004)

Li Tong's diverse works span short stories, children's literature, and young adult fiction, showcasing a profound connection to life and a grassroots perspective.

Known for his fantasy-realism technique, particularly evident in the "Kavalan Trilogy," Li Tong's storytelling vividly portrays the growth of young characters. In 1999, he continued to make a significant impact with the "Children of Taiwan" series, addressing themes of Taiwanese identity. Li Tong's literature is characterized by rich storytelling, concise language, and exploration of various societal and cultural issues. His aspiration is for children to genuinely understand their homeland, care for others, and embody the joyful freedom of being Taiwanese.

 

 

 

About the Original Work

 

《少年噶瑪蘭》

"少年噶瑪蘭" ("Youth of Kavalan") is a work by the children's literature author Li Tong, with the story set in 1991. The protagonist, Pan Xin-Ge, is a descendant of the Kavalan tribe. Through an unexpected temporal journey, he travels back to the Kavalan community in 1800, embarking on a quest to discover the origins of life.

Throughout the narrative, Pan experiences the intertwining of ancient and modern eras, exploring the ancestral wisdom of coexistence between the Kavalan tribe and the environment. The novel also delves into the consciousness clash between the Kavalan tribe and the Han Chinese. Through the interpretation of traditional culture, the author skillfully guides Pan to rediscover the roots of his life, planting seeds of cultural heritage and local identity.

"Youth of Kavalan" highlights indigenous attitudes and values, emphasizing reverence for nature and the significance of the land. This work not only provides a fantastical journey through time but also inspires readers to contemplate cultural identity and the meaning of life.
