The National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) is a national-level literary museum in Tainan City, established in 2003. NMTL also runs the Taiwan Literature Base in Taipei City. NMTL is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and researching historical materials related to literature. It is also our mission to help develop the contemporary literary environment and cultivate a linguistically diverse culture.

In an effort to preserve and best utilize Taiwan's cultural treasures, NMTL publishes, curates exhibitions, hosts events, promotes reading, and utilizes various digital media to popularize Taiwanese literature among various age groups and communities. In recent years, NMTL has also endeavored to have Taiwan literature translated into numerous foreign languages, which in turn fosters exchanges and collaboration with the international literary community.

The current NMTL building is the former Tainan Prefecture Hall, a Western-Japanese eclectic building designed by Japanese architect Moriyama Matsunosuke in 1916. As visitors step into this museum, they can not only learn about Taiwanese literature, but also witness the captivating historical and cultural trajectories of Taiwan through its architecture.
