The End of Love, the Start of a Journey

Vanished in your world.

For 2000 years, Taklamakan meaning “those who enter never come out,” has been a major obstacle on the Silk Road. “Boundless in every direction, with no orientation, people gather remains as landmarks.”(note) Apart from people entering the desert for stock raising along the Keriya River and the Hotan River, other merchants and travelers do not dare overstep safe areas. In the desert, only oases are safe routes. Stein and Hedin both tried to cross the Taklamakan Desert in vertical directions but failed. Hedin and his partner drank sheep blood, petrol and camel urine to survive. But his two teammates, the camel and his favorite dog, died of thirst in the desert. He had to abandon a lot of research notes and samples to survive with two other teammates.

Excerpt from “Travel in the Sands” in Where Khan's Falcon Flies by Du Yunci and Huang Huiling.

Dear Su,

At the starting point of the desert highway, I see a huge billboard which says “There may be desolate deserts, there is never desolate life.” After having lost you, my life has become as desolate as a desert.

The Taklamakan Desert is called “the abandoned hometown” in Uyghur, which matches well the abandoned me. The guide leads us into the desert from Minfeng County. A straight road splits the rolling sand, leading us to ancient prosperous lands. The dry air makes me feel dizzy and feel like I would be dried out by the sun. The guide tells us there is a chance to see mirages, and I hope it will be your silhouette.

In the one-way trip to Taklamakan Desert, just let me keep going forever till I vanish in your world.

Can’t fly out of your universe Bin
