The End of Love, the Start of a Journey

You get me drunk.

The River Spey valley is deserted, with farms on the slope, and Scotch cows walking on the grass. The valley runs along the River Spey, with purple and white heather flowers on the banks of the river. The river water is brownish because of peat, which is similar to the color of whiskey, as if it is a whiskey river.

Scot pointed to the far end, towards a roof spire hidden among the woods, where he said there was another brewery.

Breweries in River Spey valley make up half the total in Scotland. Walking on the whiskey path, you can smell wine every ten steps. The breweries here are mostly concentrated in the Golden Delta between Dufftown, Elgin and Banff.

Excerpt from “The Whiskey Path by the River Spey” in Small journey in Great Britain by Han Lianglu.

Su,

Today I came to Speyside of Dufftown, which is one of the six whiskey producing areas in Scotland. As the name implies, Speyside means the area located on the River Spey. The breweries here make up nearly half of the total in Scotland, including the world famous Glenlivet, Macallan and other brands. As I walked on the whiskey path, green countryside views, unfolded in front of me, were accompanied by babbling water flowing back and forth. The fragrance of baked mud and malt reminded me of your smile because we first met at the whiskey bar in the city.

I sat at a bar sipping a single malt whiskey. It had a bright color and light smell with slight fruit fragrance. With one cup of beer in my belly, my mind was still clear. After finishing a second cup, the pain was still real.

You bewitched me, got me drunk. Now I have recovered from the hangover, and I am no longer addicted to you.

Sober until daytime Bin
